Poetry by Lara C Widmann
an afternoon spent
in a hospital gown,
weighing more
than a baby elephant –
at 43,
my mother had veins
like the berlin wall.
her breasts,
twin witches,
evil beasts.
scattered satellites,
across the islands
of her landscape.
separating cells,
pebbles in a pond –
an empire of glands crushed.

"HER2 is about breast cancer; HER2 is the protooncogen that is linked to breast cancer. I thought it worked well because it may be read as 'Her too' as well."
