Poetry by Hugo Placer
your needles tempt me.
i remember when you were young, and lied to me. you said all you were was just a protrusion,
shy, gentle, understanding,
no rigor.
i came to visit one day and i saw who you really were. you stared at me
with your green wedding dress
and told me you didn't want me anymore.
you were ready to
expand your horizons.
"i need something new," you said, and
now I only see the parts
that you give to everyone. I notice your sappy eyes, and occasionally overhear your rotten mouth,
uttering some shell of goodness, eager to propagate
your true, noxious message.
why did your ego grow with you?
i loved you. but now i see your sharp friends pick at you;
one arm at a time, until you are left with nothing.
i protected you. but now i see you growing ill, i see your hunch, and i finally understand
why you tempted me.
